When it’s okay to say “NO” to an adult.

image

I’m so proud of my child for standing up for what’s right, even if she risk getting her butt whipped!

Today, I told her we were going out to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and she could be my designated driver.  She told me, she will not drive me drunk.  That she has her learners, not her license and she can only drive with a RESPONSIBLE adult.  I was really just kidding when I told her that she would be my designated driver but to listen to her go on and on about being responsible made me proud.  I hope she’s just as responsible if faced with these type of situation with her friends.

Thank you God for blessing me with a child that’s so much better than me because Lord knows I needed her to keep my balance!  Now off to celebrate… don’t get me wrong, I’m gonna have 1 drink.  What y’all thought?!

No, No, NO!!!

That awkward moment when, you take a break from your studies to pour a glass of wine… BUT as soon as you pour it, you hear your daughter that’s in the SHOWER starts to sing… “They tried to make me go to rehab but I said, ‘no, no, no’.” I don’t know if I should drink my wine, pour it back in the bottle or tell her to mind her own.. wait, let me quote Kevin Hart here… mind your own gawd damn…. business.”

BTW: She’s on a Amy Winehouse kick right now. I’m just on wine.

Let the music play!

This morning on the drive to drop the kids off, I decided to play some music.  Lately, I’ve been jammin’ “Whodini’s Greatest Hits” so I played “Five Minutes Of Funk.”  I turned the music on , Kelsey reached over to adjust the volume to a level that I could barely hear.  I turned it back up, she turned it down.  I warned her to leave it alone or I would embarrass her, she continued to adjust the  volume.  So we pulled up to the shuttle location, where all the kids were waiting to get on their buses.  As soon as Kelsey got out the car, I let both windows down and blasted the music.  She stuck her head in the air and walked off.  I pulled off and blew the horn a few times as her and her friend walked towards the bus.  I bet next time, she’ll let the music play.

15 on the road to freedom…

Yesterday we concluded Kelsey’s 15th birthday celebration at the DMV with her testing for her learners permit.  It’s been a struggle just getting her lazy behind to study for the test.  I had given her the book at the end of February telling her to study because the day after her birthday, we would be at DMV.  A week leading up to her birthday, she decided to start studying.  Most of the street signs she already knew, since she’s tested every time we get in the car.  She’s very familiar with what to do and what not to do.  And because in the past I’ve been guilty of texting while driving, that’s one thing I am certain she will NOT do.  That last slam on brakes scared the crap out of both of us.  Needless to say, I made the pledge to stop texting while driving.  Hell… the life I saved was my own!

So anyway, Monday I asked Kelsey if she was ready to go take her test, she said no.  Tuesday she wasn’t ready either.  I told her that she had until Thursday to be prepared.  On Wednesday I had to leave work early to pick her up due to transportation issues – which is the main reason why I need to make sure she has the proper knowledge, skills and abilities in a vehicle. When I picked her up, I told her I was taking her immediately to take her test.   The way I looked at it, she would sit on this as long as I allowed her to.  We have to motivate them to do what is natural in life.  Learning to drive, getting a job, applying for college, exploring your opportunities.  From the pictures you can tell, she passed her test scoring in the 90% range.  I handed her the keys to her first car and we hopped on I20 with her behind the wheels.  Was I nervous?  NO.  And I owe that to my mom for allowing Kelsey to drive on I95 from Eulonia to Brunswick since she was 12 years old. Now she’s a brave-heart! #RaisedLikeACountryGirl  #CityLife

That makes us even, right?

I took Kelsey to Zaxby’s after my appointment today; she ordered a wings and things, I ordered the “House Salad.” We got home, I was taking her food out the bag and grabbed one of her fries. As I was eating my salad, she said… Since you had a fry, I should get to taste your salad. Okay, Ms Tit for Tat. I took my fork, stuck it in a piece of lettuce and aimed the fork towards her mouth. That makes us even, right?

Celebrating Kelsey’s 15th Birthday

image

For every birthday until my 16th, my mom grilled hot dogs for us. Watching her grill is one of my best memories.

Normally, Kelsey and I would have done something similar but she asked to go out for steaks. Last night, we got dressed up and went to Houston’s where she placed her first order for a steak cooked to her liking . I asked her if there was anything else she wanted to do for her birthday, she said she wants to visit an Art gallery. I found that request to be different and exciting. While I have visited an Art Gallery, I never thought about taking Kelsey. Guess where we’ll be going next. Stay tune…
